open!

Everything in this world is not everlasting, so in order to maintain the heritage of architecture, it must be reconstructed in time.

The concept of the pavilion is designed to reflect the role of time and reconstruction processes.

How can design draw attention to heritage?

reconstruction

Due to the mistakes we are making, some processes are already irreversible.

After tens of years of inaction, we may lose even more architectural heritage.

And a building that has lost its original appearance, that has ceased dialog with its fragile surroundings, is for us the most acute metaphor of the conscious blindness in which the global world remains.

Russia pavilion at the Venice Biennale

Key idea: the reconstruction process as an exposition.

Six months before the opening of the Biennale, we plan to build a pavilion.

An open dialog is the goal and the main resource that we want to produce after six months. And the renovated site will continue to serve that production.

To spread

The circular plank on the lawn under the balcony is the speaker’s podium and the future raft. People are invited to fill it during the Biennale, the container will be sealed on the closing day of the exhibition, and the raft will be left to wait for the water.

The half belonging to the old pavilion serves as an information booth. Room for learning and reflection, pavilion foyer.

To be "open!"

A fabric stretched on scaffolding covers the main facade, forming two entrances to different levels of the building. All doors are open to visitors.

to think

Half of the entrance hall has been stripped of its finishes and the two parts of the same room, formed at different times, tell an unvarnished story.

Here you can find data on the building’s design and the possibility of updating it, as well as links to normative databases.
and research.

This is a space for learning and reflection, a lobby for the project.

to create

The central section will become a co-working space, combining the upper and lower halls.

The more utilitarian use of the lower section is in harmony with the architect’s original concept.
with the architect’s original concept suggests opportunities for full-time work, but remains accessible for public.

The upper section is a tower for people and ideas, a space for inspiration.
Lighting plays a big role.

Here have placed a workspace for co-working or co-creating.

Both with textile elements, which will create a varied and interesting environment at the top of the tower,
or with functional accent lighting.

In the dark, the co-working space turns into an allegorical beacon - a landmark for the Biennale's evening events.

to discuss

In planning the future realization of the pavilion, we envision finding ways and measures to create a flexible space.

The transformation of the lower belt of walls between the halls will allow the pavilion to become a more attractive tool for communicating the author’s thought, bring a horizontal message into the model of its use, and open up access to new scenarios.
The world has changed and architecture in it can no longer be ultimative.
